PERSONALITY:

Dream Daddy is built up of different Dad Types. Robert is known as the “Bad Dad” Type, be it because he wasn’t the greatest father to Val, maybe, but mostly because he’s the bad boy stereotype. He has the whole leather jacket, sunglasses, smoking and knives thing going for him. He is sometimes known lovingly as the “Knife Dad” because he always has a knife on him.

Robert is a bit of a gruff and aloof widower who has a macabre sense of humor, a rebellious streak and a quick-witted mouth on him. His mouth gets him into some trouble, but for the most art he doesn’t care and can get himself out of that same trouble with a flick of a knife or a well aimed insult. His sense of humor will sometimes make people think he’s a bit sick or twisted in reality but mostly he’s joking.

He tends to make up stories for all occasions. Like on a date and trying to take over a tour group and making up a new name entirely and some crazy story to get the tourists attention. Or when he tries not to talk about serious things he will tell a story instead, sometimes making it hard to tell if its real or not. It’s easier than telling the truth, especially if it has anything to do with his past.

Which brings us to serious things. Robert is reluctant to talk about serious things, like his past, his wife and child, or his affair with Joseph. His past is a riddle we mostly don’t know about, but he has a tattoo on his hand that reminds him of his past. His Wife Marilyn died in a crash (headcanon: approximately 8 years ago), after being together for well over twenty years. When Val was about 18, give or take, she gave up on her father and left him to go to college. The two of them haven’t talked much since then. Robert is scared it’s too late to talk to her now.

As for the affair with Joseph, he most definitely doesn’t talk about that, though it wasn’t a very well kept secret. Most everyone knows about the incident. Mary, his best friend (Joseph’s WIFE) even seems to understand. Her marriage is on the rocks anyhow. Joseph is a man of God and a very nice fellow, but Robert hates him. Hates him because of the affair, and because of what he has done to Mary. He hates himself for the affair as well, and will not talk about it easily.

Note: Ages and years are all appromimit because it isn’t stated how old anyone is. I tend to take Robert as 47 years old, and since Val is 25, that means he was 22 when they had her. And if Val gave u and left her father after her mother's death to go to college and was estranged from him, I tend to say she was 17 when Marilyn died, making it about 8 years ago that Robert became a widower.

He’s a cryptid hunter and cryptid enthusiast (though mothman is bullshit). He researches and believes in a lot of cryptid creatures like the wendigo or the yeti and other creatures that are hard to find. He does not believe in Mothman though. He is fully sure that it is a made up creature to pull in tourists to it’s damn little town and nothing about it is real. He is very opinionated on this, like most things. He does full on research and goes out at night to see what he can find himself. So far he has found nothing.

When it comes to skill he has a talent for the knife. He’s got several of them on him at all times and isn’t scared to use them. There are so many occasions that might need a knife that he likes to be prepared for anything. He tends to keep a folding knife, a swiss army knife and a hunting knife on him at least. He’s an expert hand at whittling wood and does it as a hobby to kill time while he’s sitting up on the hill in the back of his truck, or out in the woods waiting on cryptids to make an appearance.

Some things he’s into would be good music (He’s into Tom Waits), drinking whiskey, football, and a love for all things that are movies. He’s one of those types of people who will stay till the end of the credits not because of extras but because he wants to respect the art form and all the people who put effort into it. He’s very passionate about movies. Other things he likes? Coffee. Dogs. And most importantly, pineapple on pizza. You are a heathen to hate it.

He’s also seen playing Dungeons and Dragons with all the other days and seems to be one of the ones that knows what he’s doing, to a point. He picked up a “Rogue” character, though everyone just called him a Thief instead. He was constantly making comments of using his ‘non-criminal skills’ to ‘pick locks’.

In general, he’s not a bad guy just a tough guy with a soft spot. He might be called Bad Dad but he’s a loyal friend if you can get close to him. A good guy to have in a fight or just to hang out and drink with.

POWERS/ABILITIES: None. Robert has no supernatural powers at all. He’s a normal human being. He wittles wood and makes carvings of things like dogs and what not. I like to say he can play the guitar and sing, but that is a headcanon. My support for this is that he has records framed and music festival posters framed in his house. He doesn’t seem the type to frame records unless they were important to him, so I like to think they are his. This is just a minor detail of very little importance but it makes for a nice touch to his history he doesn’t talk about.
